The Mockumentary

The McCann documentary, analysed by forensic psychologist Paulo Sargento

Of the pretence reconstitution of the facts of the 3rd of May 2007, when Maddie disappeared, there's no more than a few minutes. Then, one can see a happy family

by Hernâni Carvalho

Kate McCann saw the open window. Thus starts the McCanns’ documentary. To tell you the truth, the window was opened by Kate herself, as proved by the lophoscopic (fingerprints) analyses that were made by the PJ on the windows of apartment 5A, at the Ocean Club, in Praia da Luz. Thus starts the documentary that SIC broadcast lat Tuesday.

From the pretence reconstitution, we saw, all in all, less than five minutes. But we saw a happy family. A perfect one. Kate paints with the twins, she takes them to watch the chicken, the ducks and the horses. She peels potatoes and greets Gerry when he arrives after a day of medical consults. To be certain, we even saw Maddie’s father’s patients. Kate was also a doctor, part time, but now all she does is to care for the children. Life as it is for perfect, complying parents.

Now, the McCanns protect the twins. When half of the world was searching for Maddie, the twins’ faces could be seen. Even on the day that they landed in England, after leaving Faro with State honours, without having been subject to any inspection at the airport, like it happens to everyone else. The McCann documentary is a television making work of art. Concerning the coherence of the facts that were broadcast, that’s another issue.

'Tvmais' saw the McCann documentary in the company of forensic psychologist Paulo Sargento. And we registered his comments.

Paulo Sargento: As was expected, the announced reconstitution by the McCanns resulted in an image laundering attempt, that in my opinion is disastrous.

In truth, they didn’t dare to call this production a “reconstitution”…
P.S.: Yes, but they suggested that this was a documentary that would provide new clues.

And did they do that?
P.S.: No. Right away because neither the actors served the purpose nor the reconstitution of the night when Maddie disappeared is even complete. They only used one actress to play the inconsistent role of Jane Tanner.

Maybe there’s another documentary in waiting…
P.S.: That’s could be it… Notice that Matthew Oldfield played himself, very briefly, and Gerry McCann was counselling and little more. It’s bizarre that the documentary occupies itself with the reconstitution for less than one tenth of its total length (50 minutes).

What do you say about Jane Tanner’s testimony?
P.S.: Hardly credible. The alleged abductor walks slowly, in an excessively lit area (under the street lamp), for Jane not to be able to remember any trace of his face. And yet, she remembers difficult details like the colour of the trousers, the jacket and the type of shoes.

And the statements from five persons who saw the “ugly” man?
P.S.: It’s interesting that the man was only seen by English people, and almost exclusively during the day.

The Smiths saw him at 9.50 p.m.
P.S.: Yes. But on a location and walking into a direction that were opposed to those that were mentioned by Jane Tanner. What’s even more curious is the fact that the witness mentions that “he doesn’t look like a tourist”, carrying “a little girl with long blonde hair”. This is impressive. A little English-looking girl, being carried away by a person who didn’t look like a tourist. The so-called ugly man. Adding to the fact that he was only seen by English people, during the day, wearing a black jacket (not a brown one, like Jane mentions), he appears too early in the story. The first testimony dates from the 29th of April and one of the detectives speaks a lapidary sentence: “Someone watched the apartment for a week or more”. Well, if Maddie disappeared on the 3rd of May and the McCanns arrived on the 28th of April…, this is called a FRAUD!

In the documentary, there is a new piece of data. Gerry, Kate and Matthew admit that they didn’t even enter the children’s bedroom and they say it was too dark to be see clearly whether Maddie was there or not.
P.S.: That’s where Gerry betrays himself. He states that when he looked into the room, he remembers thinking how beautiful Madeleine was and how much he loved her and how proud he was to be the father of three beautiful children. Gerry says that he felt that when he “looked into the bedroom”. Just watch the documentary again.

Nevertheless, the detectives say that they are hopeful…
P.S.: Detectives don’t operate on hope. Detectives work with hypothetical-deductive methods, based on evidence and indications.

At least, we now know the McCanns’ everyday life?
P.S.: Not even that. It’s daily life that is TOO NORMAL for someone who has suffered one of the most devastating blows that a human being can suffer: the loss of a daughter. Everything smells artificial and plastic. The relationship with the twins, the phone call with Jane Tanner, Gerry’s professional routines, Kate waiting for him… All in all, an old, well-known strategy of promoting the image of a happy family, which in this case, becomes grotesque. Just notice Gerry McCann’s sentence: “We’re a family, a happy family, but incomplete…” As much as we want to, not everything is what it seems to be!

Thanks for the new thread Cláudia.

Very interesting that after such a highly polished 'performance' that mistakes were still made, such as Gerry's inconsistency about looking in on Maddie. I think we can see what PS thinks to be the truth. I didn't buy the happy family portrayal either and I'm sure that many others didn't. It came across as false and I'm sure it was done that way to plant the seed in people's minds that they are good and loving parents. Well, I'm sorry, but normal loving parents don't leave a three year-old to babysit to go out for a meal.

Woke up at 5am today so I'm going to see if I can go back to sleep for a bit!

Hi all,

I did manage to grab a couple more hours' of sleep eventually!

The 3as has posted a link to a new Maddie blog:

http://www.fotdmike.me.uk/writings/madeleine.html

It is a very good, coherent and well written post. The author is quite 'new' to the details of the case and sets out his thoughts in a logical and structured way. Essentially, he is a fence-sitter. Nothing wrong with that, know, but in this case it is helpful to see an opinion from a fresh perspective.

Have a good day all.

HI, Dylan!
Good morning!
I have to say that I didn't watch it with much attention so I missed some of the things. I didn't miss the 'abduction' of 'Kate' from the documentary, though. And found it very interesting. And I also noticed that it wasn't anything similar to a reconstruction at all. I thought it was more something like 'The McCanns as a family of four'.
Thanks for the link. Had checked it yesterday because I saw it on Twitter, I think. Very interesting.
Have a great day! :-)

Hi Claudia -

Thanks for the new thread.

I have watched the 'mockumentary' and it leaves out more than it shows in my opinion and, as I have already commented on it, I'll say no more.

I watched the SIC interview on McCann Files yesterday. Quite revealing.

The McCanns were both very nervous with Gerry pulling his ear and shifting around, and Kate with her 'you knows' throughout. I'm afraid I wasn't taken in at all. I have tried with all my might to see their innocence in all of this but I'd be lying if I said I did.

Just why they not suing GA if they consider him a thorn in the flesh in their search for Madeleine, as they did the DX is something only they themselves know!

I expect the interview was another nice little earner for them (and the programme makers too).

JennyH said...

I know, Claudia.

We, who have been interested in the case from the start, tend to forget that not everyone has been following it with the same close attention. But you can see why people get hooked on the story, even at this late stage.

They can't resist a mystery that involves a lovely little girl, missing from her bed, professional parents under suspicion, accusations of high-level corruption on all sides and a relatively exotic location full of suspicious swarthy locals ...

Hi Jenny,

Yes it was a breath of fresh air to read him. At this stage when the majority of us hardened followers have formed an opinion of our own, it is really good to see somebody asking questions and sharing doubts from an entirely fresh stance. I think that be us pro, anti or fence-sitter, we are very entrenched in our beliefs after all this time. I will watch and wait for how this man's thoughts and feelings develop.

Nancy, Gerry will never sue GA as it's just too dangerous! As Viv always says (and she is right on this count) you only need to look at what happened to Lord Archer! ;-)

I think my early rude awakening is affecting my typing now - tired as hell! Here's hoping I won't be back at 3am!

Whole programme was farcical, director is completely in pocket in my opinion.

Anyone interested in seeing yet another interview with? yes, you've guessed it, the celebrated McCanns! They will be appearing on 'This Morning' with Fern Britton on Monday the 18th May. These are the same McCanns who have complained incessantly about being in the media spotlight for the past two years! Still, a bit more money for the kitty!

Wait for the fake tears from Kate. I, for one, will be giving this one a miss as Fern is a well known McCann sycophant.

I'd rather watch paint dry than sit through their 'ums, ahs, and you knows' again.

Hi Claudia,
What I cannot understand re the McCanns is why anybody would give them donations to the fund,?they cannot justify where the millions already raised have gone, nor have they produced anything other than ridiculous false sightings all over Europe, any interview they have given only emphasises their lies and I just cannot understand why some still support them. Its always about how they are suffering and hardly a mention of Madeleine...still the press in Britain fawn all over them and they are never questioned, merely allowed to put their version of events across time and time again.
I just hope that the book Amaral has written and his interviews will trigger the reopening of the case at a future date. This is something which would horrify the McCanns, do you think the case will ever be reopened? Lizzy x

Hi BT and Lizzy, good to read you again.

Lizzy, a while back, Cláudia did offer some hope that the case will be reopened. Amaral says that there is fresh evidence too, so fingers crossed! If I had given anything to the fund, I'd have been very upset to discover that they paid their mortgage with it. I will never understand why they didn't sell-up an move to a smaller home. It would have released money that they could spend on the 'search'. Maybe their excuse is that they need the room for when Maddie comes home, however, if she is found, not having space would pale into insignificance would it not?! Also, they can't claim to wangt to preserve her room and all things about her as they ripped off a cover of her book and washed cuddle cat!!

BT, good point, but then I thought the whole programme was a very well
polished performance and that the paint pots were just props ;-)

Cláudia, hope you enjoyed the party :-) I awoke at 0730 this morning - a much more sociable hour!!

Hi everyone,

Another new interesting article on Joanna Morais blog mainly about the state of Kate McCann's health.

Raining heavily here today but it's much needed in East Anglia which is the driest county in the UK apparently.

Hi Dylan -

Dylan: Hope you slept OK? I am still open-minded. On the facts available I find I can't honestly be anything else, though it's much more comfortable to agree with everyone and be agreed with. Not being entrenched in my views I would not be surprised at any outcome. Just the truth would be fine.

Lizzy: I would never donate to the Fund. Whatever the facts of the case I have no evidence that the money is being or has ever been used properly. I might just as well donate to an MP lol.

Nancy: Fine thanks, hope you are too.

Dylan: Those poems ... OMG. What can I say? They should carry a mental health warning.

Cláudia said...

Hi, Dylan.
I did, thank you.
Glad you slept better and longer. :-)
I don't think the case being re-opened is a matter of 'new' evidence. It's a matter of political will. For instance, if there was political will, the fact that in the mockumentary statements were manipulated and therefore different from what is in the files, could be a reason for reopening it. The question is that the political will isn't there.
Have a great day.

Hi BT -

You say the director is completely 'in pocket' - do you mean in the McCann's pocket, or in pocket moneywise? Could be a bit of both!!

I noticed that Kate didn't repeat the following strange sentence on the Channel 4 programme.

"I know that what happened is not due to the fact of us leaving the children asleep. I know it happened under other circumstances"

Really Kate - well, if you know those circumstances why not put the whole world in the picture?

When will she or Gerry ever take the blame for what happened to Madeleine. The fact that they left three small children alone doesn't come into the equation at all according to them.

lizzy said...

Hi Dylan and Jenny
I agree with both of you, they have never searched for their daughter, only sought to make money from her, as for washing cuddlecat and ripping pages from her book, I think that shows that they come first all the time, both the washing and the using the page out of the book to work out their lies and dodgy time lines, its all about preserving themselves...even before I suspected they were involved in Maddie's disappearance I was puzled as to why they needed the fund especially as it was set up so early and she could have been found alive and well after a few weeks, I think the fact they set it up proves they knew she wouldn't be found safe and well. Gerry was even a few weeks afterwatds talking of first anniversaries...if people really thought about it , they would realise they are involved based on their behaviour and actions...Lizzy

Cláudia said...

Hi, Lizzie.
To be honest, sometimes it seems to me that K & G were the only ones thinking of anniversaries. Everybody else in the world at the time was expecting Madeleine to be found soon.
xxxx

lizzy said...

Hi Claudia
Yes you are right, it was bizarre to talk of anniversaries so soon, a give away really.
A taxi driver I know who loves holidaying in Portugal said he knew they were lying from the start when they lied about the jemmied shutters, he said no way could anybody break in via those metal shutters, they would have created so much noise just trying. I remember at first thinking he was a bit harsh but proven right in the end as they have lied from start to finish in this case.
I think a lot more people now believe them to be involved here in Britain, people are not stupid and can see through lies in the end.
Lizzy x

Cláudia said...

Hi, Lizzy!
The shutters are not metal, but they are quite noisy. Even if you're just using them normally, let alone when someone's trying to break them.
The anniversary things made many people think about this case differently.
Boa noite, Lizzy!

Hi Claudia and all,

Claudia thanks for this thread. I like reading what Paulo Sargento has to say. He and GA make sense.

'The shutters are not metal, but they are quite noisy. Even if you're just using them normally, let alone when someone's trying to break them.'

Hi Lizzy and Baththeory.

Claudia it is interesting to read the above. Now K said in her Mockumentary when she was describing the most ridiculous reason how she knew just knew it was an abduction (I remember her on This Morning claiming due to the Secrecy Law she could not say but if she could say we would just know without a doubt) that she did not turn the light on as she did not want to wake the sleeping children up. What! Imo if she did not turn the light on for the reason she gives then switching a light on might normally wake those children up, maybe close family know this and this was for their benfit, to must believe this was an abduction, those little kids slept through all the disruption and the noise of what was to later come that night hmm I would be surprised if the light was not on then. Throught all the wailing and wall bashing did she say GNR officer do not turn that light on it will wake the children! Having come to realise over the past two years how selfish these two are I could believe when doing a real check she would not switch that light on just in case any of her children did wake up(allegedly sedated or otherwise M and her brother crying on a previous night spring to mind) else she would be stuck there with a woken child or 2or 3 and not be able to go back to her me time. Well I hope she would not leave any of her children whilst they were awake! So she did not turn on the light however she expects the world to believe that an abductor entered the flat went into the room in the dark, hid (WHERE?) when he heard G do his check and stand and look at how beautiful M was and how proud he was. What about the twins? They were in the same room, did he not look at them and feel that way about them his feelings were only for the child who was to be snatched as he says minutes later! Oh that's right having heard the interviews recently it seems it was only M that was getting checked. I'll check on M for you, check on M not check on the children. She also expects the world to believe that this abductor in the dark opened the curtains, window, noisy shutter and lifted the largest child in the room then escaped out of the room via the window. Even if someone was outside waiting to take the child it would be impossible to do it quietly. It was a cold night and this did not wake the sleeping children up. One would expect that those other children who wake up when a light is switched on to be bawling when MO did his check at 9.30 Did he not feel how cold it was? Or if not when M O did his when K did hers at 10pm. Also these suspects are so ugly that any child stirring and seeing them would be hysterical and think it was a monster. Of course G has said (badly acted imo) in the Panorama programme something like the twins slept so heavily maybe they were drugged! So the abductor drugged all 3 children in the dark with only a small window of opportunity!Every time they open their mouths or do their Mocks they just make themselves more and more unbelievable, keep them coming I say! The more documents they provide (like the recent Mockumentary) for the PJ to use when the process is re-opened the better!

Cláudia said...

Hi, Zodiac.
There was no car. Don't forget that according to the mockumentary the 'abductor' took Madeleine and walked the streets with her on his arms for at least 40 minutes (Smith's sighting). At first I thought that weird, but I finally understood what he was doing. He must have been waiting for the bus. ;-)

I have just read this on the Joana Morais Blog, I did not know the case would be re-opened because of G A's book. Explains a lot about their inaction to sue him. Well done G A I like you more and more each day!

“Maddie’s parents put on a show to hide their lie”

'Has the McCanns’ spokesperson invoked the idea of a complaint against you?

I impatiently await that, since my book was published in Portugal, a year ago. That would allow for the case to be reopened and I could explain myself in front of a court of law. But Maddie’s parents obviously don’t want for the truth to emerge.'

Good morning Claudia & all!
I read 2 comments in JM blog which i think very interesting. One because it pretty odd, the other because it what i always thought it happened.
The odd one has the conviction Madeleine is alive and well, and could be acceptable if it was not strong signs of her death.
He/she says Madeleine was taken by some friend that was there in a yatch, because she is Oldfield's daughter, and is getting everyday more similar to his other daughter of the same age.Kate couldn't cope with it and the abduction story was set up.
It is the first time i saw this theory, and i think it is also very strange that no reaction to this had appear.
The other comment is Guerra's, on the last JM's post.
I agree all he say , because when a criminal hide the body it is because something incriminate the body will show.
A nice week end to all

Hi Cláudia,

The two things that really get me about this first is this statemenr: "I know that what happened is not due to the fact of us leaving the children asleep. I know it happened under other circumstances"
The other is that they never had any intention of actually looking at the children. They were just going to stand ouside the door and listen. How bad is that?

I really don't think anyone in authority gives a darn about Madeleine, it is all politics. :-(

Cláudia said...

Hi, Helmy!
I think that statemente only makes sense if they know exactly what happened. Which, of course, is a possibility.
As for not checking, I still can't understand how they say it in such a comfortable way. Kate actually admitted she was ready to turn her back and not look at the kids because she heard no crying. A thousand things can happen, for crying out loud to unattended children. And I'm sure that as a doctor, Kate must be aware that dead children don't cry. And that's all I'm saying or I'll be using the kind of language I don't want to use today.
Enjoy your Saturday!

Hi Claudia and all,

Zodiac - good post and I agree with everything you say.

In my opinion, if the McCanns and their pals were innocent in all of this they would all have offered to take lie detector tests when they returned to the UK to clear their names, as anyone would do after such a catastrophe. The fact they didn't makes them appear guilty to me.

The window concerned is so near to the entrance, as seen in GA's documentary, there is no way that any of them checking on the children would not have noticed an open window with the shutters flapping around in the wind that Kate described!

It's a load of poppycock and how they've got away with it this long is a complete mystery to me.

Mandarinn, can you imagine it? Better than a south american soap opera! :-)

Anon, get your threats and insults and shove them where the sun don't shine. You'll probably be in a much better mood afterwards. :-)

Hi everyone -

Latest news! - the McCanns are suing Goncalo Amaral for his accusations that they are somehow involved in Madeleine's disappearance and saying that she is in all probability dead.

They are also trying to block GA's latest documentary showing his conclusions in the case.

I think GA will be saying 'bring it on', but I have no doubt the McCanns will use the most powerful solicitors and barristers to make him look a liar and an opportunist!

They seem to have a stronghold on the media and the hierarchy in this country.

JUSTICE FOR MADELEINE!

A follow on to my last post:

Joana Morais -

Goncalo Amaral's publisher in Portugal - Senor Lopes said - "the conclusions of the book are also the conclusions of many Portuguese and British police involved in the enquiry.

We are looking for a publisher in the UK but the McCanns have a very powerful influence in British society and a lot of pressure is being brought to prevent the book from being published.

We have had a lot of letters from UK people who want it published there."

Another quote:

"Isobel Duarte, who is a lawyer of some repute in Portugal, will be acting for the McCanns. She is a good friend of Jose Luis Arnault PPD/PSD said to be present in a meeting with Gerry McCann in his last visit to Lisbon, the meeting which included Rogerio Alves and Ed Smethurst. Now we know where and when the McCanns picked up this new player!"

It seems the McCanns are including the twins in their case against GA - something that doesn't surprise me about this narcissistic couple! This is not about Madeleine, but about their hurt feelings and reputation which they brought on themselves having left their three little children alone in PdeLuz not only on the night she disappeared but on numerous occasions!

The Daily Wail has said they won't be able to command the compensation (if they win their case) as they would in the UK, but you can bet your bottom dollar they will have interview after interview on the world stage if they win or not and make a million or two for their Fund! They can't lose!

Have a pleasant Sunday everyone!

I see that I spent too much time watching Eurovision - totally political once again, but I must admit I did like Norway's song.

Anyway, I failed to read up on here last night so didn't realise everyone already knew about the pending Court Case against GA!

Just why did the McCann's wait all this time before doing something about it? The same reason they waited until it suited them before suing the DX I suppose.

I think GA will be pleased at the publicity for his book and his documentary, and I hope if it does go to Court the fact that the Tapas 9 all failed to return for a reconstruction to help get to the truth will be highlighted, because that says it all really!

Hi Cláudia,

At last it looks like things are going to get interesting. I'm certain Mr Amaral isn't going to settle on the court house steps. I wonder if they will drop the charges if they have to go to court in person, not just have their lawyer present.

If this case reaches Court,(which I very much doubt), the McCanns must be confident of winning and making themselves plenty of money. Including the three children as claimants will make sure they take a share of any payout too of course. Maybe a tax saving is the main reason for that.

They know the book will be published in the States and eventually work it's way to the UK via the internet, so why go to Court over it other than to make money. Their reputation won't be enhanced by it in my opinion - in fact the opposite if things were to come out in Court that show up the tapas 9 inconsistencies.

Is it just a coincidence that Gerry is an avid supporter of this government who are going through hell on the pages of the media right now. Will this latest revelation from the McCanns help take these stories from the front pages? Just a thought.

Good morning Claudia & all!!
I just read all the posts and comments in JM blog and i wonder what they want is the old legal trick of" providencia cautelar".It will be a bit(only a bit... because i guess there not p.c. to Internet... ahaha), it wellworks only in Portugal, i think and it shows how desperate they are and how the book and the video are truth.
And by the way it is interesting how RA is taking distancia of ot it

Oh no Cláudia, you have the flu. That's what I had. a headache that wouldn't quit right on the base of the skull. Try to sleep. It will get better. Saying that 3 weeks on still have the cough. Call in sick tomorrow if you have to. No point going back before you are ready. Do you know anyone who went to Mexico? If so you might have to kill them! Get well soon.

HI, Helmy!
I know who gave it to me. It was one of the kids who kept coughing yesterday morning. Pretty sure he hasn't been to Mexico! :-)
I'll be fine tomorrow. I just need to take two more pills and sleep.
Thanks! :-)
Have a nice Sunday!
