Updated update - A bit too late

Update 13:00 pm: Jane Tanner, Matthew Oldfield and Clarence Mitchell are in Praia da Luz with Gerry McCann. Apparently it's a joint ITV Channel 4 production. Gerry will not take any questions from the media, Clarence will give a press statement later on.

The production team brought a 'Madeleine' to play the role of Madeleine Beth McCann.

Meanwhile 21 workers of the Ocean club were fired today, the letter mentioned the McCanns as the cause for their joint dismissal. The workers are considering to sue the McCanns.

Gerry in Portugal to participate in a reconstruction for a TV CHANNEL, Sic Notícias just revealed.
Not interested in the Police, uh?

.....................................................................................

Gerry is going to follow the development of private investigations in the Algarve, and there is to be news soon

by Duarte Levy

A month before the second anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance, Gerry McCann, the little English girl’s father, arrived yesterday evening at Lisbon airport for a 48-hour visit.

During his stay, Gerry McCann will follow the filming of a “kind of” mini reconstitution of what allegedly happened on the night that Maddie disappeared. The filming is made by ITV, that intends to record a documentary and counts on a group of actors who will play the roles of the nine British citizens: Kate, Gerry McCann and the other members of the Tapas group.

According to the couple’s spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, Madeleine’s father allegedly also comes to follow the couple’s ongoing private investigations on the terrain.

“Gerry is not going to meet the PJ or any member of the Portuguese authorities”, Clarence told 24horas. (Really, Mr Mitchell? We all know he doesn't like the police very much!)

The couple’s spokesman, now also working for a communications and public relations company, further promised that during Gerry’s visit to Praia da Luz, the media would be offered “relevant news” concerning the search for Maddie. (Will Madeleine's whereabouts be revealed, then? Less than that it's not relevant.)

Clarence Mitchell refused to confirm or deny the presence of private investigators in Praia da Luz, but 24horas knows that during last week, while the campaign was ongoing, at least two former members of the English police visited the locations where supposedly Maddie was abducted from.

As 24horas had published already, Gerry McCann returned to Portugal alone because “Kate is not ready yet”. (Hmmm...)

Yesterday evening, Maddie’s father travelled directly to the Algarve, after being greeted by members of the British embassy, who awaited him on his arrival. (Nothing new there.)

Clarence Mitchell confirmed to 24horas that “just like Gerry had announced a few weeks ago, during his first visit, this is just one more visit”, and other visits are scheduled, with “the purpose of searching for Maddie”, according to the couple’s spokesman. (Two years later?)

PJ follows Gerry’s visit to the Algarve

A source at the Polícia Judiciária in Portimão confirmed that Maddie’s father’s visit to our country is being watched closely (I really hope so. As closely as possible...), yet lamented that the couple didn’t carry it out at “the time when the inquiry demanded it”. (Oh come on, there were certainly more important things to do than help the police find out what really happened to Madeleine.)

The population of Praia da Luz, which is upset by the campaign that has been carried out in that area of the Algarve, fails to understand the visit’s purpose: “They did nothing to help the police and ended up fleeing this place like criminals”, Rui Macedo told 24horas, adding that “they won’t rest until they destroy our region”. (A standing ovation from me, Rui Macedo!)

But Gerry McCann isn’t the only one returning to Portugal, as 24horas was able to establish that several other persons who intervened in the Maddie case are in our country at the moment. (Double hmmm...)

Claudia, you have not given enough information on this thread to form an opinion, but please do not tell me that Mr McCann is actually getting paid to do a reconstruction.

gina said...

Claudia, I just read the full account by Astro. I thought at first it was a Portuguese TV channel making the programme, but I now see it is a British one.

The whole thing is a farse and nothing more than a publicity stunt IMO. What on earth is the point of having a reconstruction 2 years later using actors.

I am very sorry if the McCanns little girl really was abducted and they have had to endure a lot of bad press but they do very little IMO to win sympathy anymore. If Gerry McCann does not get the support he wants from the Portuguese people during this visit it will come as no shock to me. He is mocking the PJ by doing this reconstruction now and to be honest I think the Portuguese authorities should not have allowed this programme to be made in Portugal on the grounds that if the McCanns were not prepared to return to Portugal to do a (for free) reconstruction for the police when requested, then they are not welcomed to come now with their media circus and disrupt Luz when it suits them.

This is not leaving no stone unturned IMO, it is taking the pi.s

Hi, Gina.
Just updated it.
Just for the record, the authorities have no way od stopping it. It is not against the law as soon as they ask for permission for footage is aksed to the right people. But I wish it was against the law.
I know how I would feel if I were an Algarvian. And I know how I would show it. :-)
It's a beautiful day here.

Good morning Claudia and all!
I just took of my list of media i used to see or read, the mccs supports.. first Expresso and also the biased SIC..i will see what more.
Now we know why MCCs are eager(after 2 years to investigate in loco .. AH!!!!!!) it is to more cash over their daughter.
I just read in "Guardian" a new about MW asking their USA Insurance for the damages caused by the high profile chosen by Maddie's parents, and dont forget to stress the left their babies alone when they went out to have dinner.

PS- inglês macarronico... mas penso que se entende ;)

Good morning, MAndarinn! :-)
I wasn't aware about Mark Warner's intentions. It makes sense.
They have no shame whatsoever. Oh well, nothing new to me. :-)
O teu inglês é óptimo.

I wonder how MW are taking all this reconstruction nonsense, are they never going to be allowed to try and get their business back on track either. Unbelievable!!

Cláudia said...

Gina, maybe they should sue! ROTFLMAO!

gina said...

Forgot to say, If MW have allowed filming on their premises then they have probably shot themselves in the foot about complaining about the publicity

Cláudia said...

They may be shooting elsewhere.

gina said...

Yes Claudia you could be right they might be shooting elsewhere, it will fit in with the farse this is not to have a reconstruction at the place it happened. They could have saved the air fare and shot it at Butlins in Skegness

Cláudia said...

Gina, you're on form today! PMSL!

gina said...

I await with interest comments from those who see no wrong in anything the McCanns do, why this farse is necessary, then I will not respond to anything they say because they will be talking bo..ocks.

Cláudia said...

But Gina, they're just looking for their little girl? How could they ever stop? They're leaving no stone unturned! (I'm just preparing you!) LOL

gina said...

No it will be damned if they do and damned if they dont

Still a load of b.......

Cláudia said...

Gina, there's no spinning this. These are the people who have lost a daughter, refused the police invitation for a reconstruction. waited a year and then decided to do a 'reconstruction' for a tv channel... Not even Jesus Christ could make this look better.

gina said...

If Gerry McCann parks his car on a yellow line in Luz and ends up with a 3 million euro parking fine I guess that will be the PJ's way of putting their two fingers up at him too.

gina said...

Seriously Claudia, although on the fence, I totally agree with your 10.16 post

Cláudia said...

LOL Unfortunately parking fines have limits. And the PJ doesn't do fines. Only criminal investigation. But maybe there is an overzealous GNR officer around! LOL

Cláudia said...

Gina, truth be told, those are facts. :-)

gina said...

I am surprised there is not something on Portuguese news filming the filming (if you see what I mean) or maybe they are just treating it with the contempt it deserves.

Off now, I am McCanned out. TTFN

There's still no filming, so no filming of the filming! :-)
Have to go too.

Hi
Have been enjoying the sunshine. Lovely weather at last!

I suppose that even though the McCanns didn't want to turn up for the reconstruction before it will still be them and their friends saying who did what when in this reconstruction. Any inconsistencies will still be apparent.

I wonder what plans there are for the second anniversary and for Madeleine's fifth birthday.

Dylan, I hope everything has calmed down at home.

Everything is very quiet on the J4 blog. Vee was on calling people stupid names a four-year-old would be proud of and writing his usual hate messages saying hate should be illegal :-o . Mum21 must be tightening up the manacles on the ducks feet in her garden while Rosie (if the photos in her Photobucket account are anything to go by) is possibly hiding in Viv's bushes to get some more pictures for the account.

Back off to enjoy the sun.

Até logo!

Cláudia said...

Hi, Zetta!
Lovely weather here too.
It seems the reconstruction will be done by actors and I'm pretty sure it won't take in account the inconsistencies in all their interviews and rogatories simply because if it did, it would be impossible to film. I pretty much think it will be a piuece of fiction with a script, to be honest!
I don't even want to think about the plans...
I love when Vee stands up against hate in his very pecualiar hateful manner! LOL And the hateful language he uses to fight hate resembles the Tapas inconsistencies.
PMSL thinking about the duo's activities! :-)
A paparazzo! LOL

gina said...

I just read Vee8's comments and have no comment other than to say there should also be a law against "marketing" missing children

Cláudia said...

And I think there should be a law against child neglect. Oh wait, there is.

Gina said...

Neglect is not the word I use for what they did. To me neglect is when parents do not feed, cloth, wash there kids properly, also when they leave kids to fend for themselves while they go away for the weekend or whatever. However, it is only a word, and a word not worth arguing over. The McCanns should not have left their kids in the way they did IMO and in the opinion of all those with more than one brain cell. Maybe the reason they were not charged is because what they did, did not fall into the terms of neglect, in which case and new law is needed known as "stupid, selfish, prats law"

Cláudia said...

It is neglect and that is how the law sees it, Gina. I told you about that Portuguese woman, the other day, who left her 8 year old in bed, sleeping, while she went to work. The kid woke up and started crying in the balcony. A neighbour called the police. The woman was arrested, taken to the presence of a judge and is currently awaiting trial. Her child was 8, she was not eating and drinking and having fun (she was trying to earn a living) and her child is alive and well and his whereabouts have always been known. The reason why the McCanns weren't treated the same way must be the reason which made the Ambassador call the Head of the PJ telling him there was an abduction for the PJ to investigate before the PJ got to the scene, the reason why the Ambassador was there the following morning and the reason the McCanns spoke with the Prime Minister on the phone. ;-)

Cláudia said...

I've just watched the pink clown on TV. Feel like throwing up.

Gina said...

I appreciate what you are saying but I can see the difference. The Portuguese women went a long way away and and left the child alone. (I can see why she did it and sympathise with her reasons) but none the less the child was left. She did not have the backup story of 15 minute checks etc.

We could be bordering on a fall out over this one Claudia and I am certainly not going to fall out over the McCanns anymore. They did what they did, they are doing what they want to do now, and whatever the outcome is their fault, no matter what we call it

Cláudia said...

Gina, debating and disagreeing are not falling out. :-)
The woman wasn't far away. She was 5 minutes away from her home. Just like being in your backyard (if you have a big house!) LOL
More important, I've just seen and heard things on tv that need some time to digest...

Cláudia said...

I just heard on RTP there is a 'Madeleine' hired...

Gina said...

You are a gluten for punishment, I cannot even bear to turn the TV on just in case what I see makes me sick

Cláudia said...

Gina, I have to confirm reality is a lot more weird than fiction, believe me. I wonder if they found a 'Madeleine' with a similar eye.

Hi everyone -

I thought it wouldn't be too long before the wanabees, Gerry and Clarence, got on the bandwagon again! Of course, Maddie's sixth birthday is coming up and we all knew that wouldn't go by without another stone 'not being unturned!!' The cash boxes must be empty again!

Just who are they trying kid with these stunts? I certainly don't think the majority of the British or Portuguese public think they are actually doing this phoney reconstruction (with actors) to help find Maddie.

How farcical can they get.

We all know it's about making more money out of their dear departed daughter Maddie.

I'm only surprised that Gerry or Clarence are not taking the leading role! And who will play the PJ's? Or will they just be ignored again as before!

Kate's absence speaks louder than words! I suppose she is worried they may request she answers those 40 odd questions that went over her head the last time she was in PdeL - the pathetic excuse for a mother.

Cláudia said...

Hi, Nancy!
Good to read you!
Couldn't say it any better!
They have no shame.

nancy said...

I have never been able to get my head around the fact that things went so quickly, like clockwork, the night Maddie (supposedly) went missing, and before long the whole world was looking for a cute little girl with a coloboma in her right eye. A little girl who had been left, with two younger siblings, in an unlocked bedroom in a strange apartment whilst her parents, with their equally 'into it' pals, left their children too.

And did they get dragged into the dock for neglect and abandonment - of course not.

They got top notch royalty treatment from the word go. Set up a lucrative Fund etc. I don't need to go into it because we all know how they were treated as celebrities (and still are) rather than as unspeakably neglectful parents whose little girl had gone missing. We all know how they smiled and laughed when thinking no-one was aware of it, especially in telvision interviews.

Could it be a cover up on a scale that none of us could visualise ever happening, so as to get that Amber Alert system, soon to be followed by a wholesale microchip programme for children on the road, and of course use the culpable couple to head it, with members of the Labour party at their sides throughout.

I would never be surprised to see Gerry take his place in the Labour government. Remember how he was given a standing ovation by the Leicestershire Police a short while after Maddie went missing, so he must be held in esteem by them for some reason that no sensible person could fathom!

There is much more to this case than meets the eye in my opinion, and even though common sense tells me that Maddie is no longer alive, there is something at the back of my mind saying maybe she could turn up when she has served her purpose, whatever that was. Why else have Kate and Gerry behaved the complete opposite of how normal loving parents would.

Just me being paranoid again though I suppose, but what else explains the way the McCanns have been treated as untouchables and the tapas pals have kept completely silent over the whole affair, apart from their statements which have varied so much it is hard to take them seriously.

I tend to think that what happened to Maddie was the 2nd May and not the 3rd. Just why did Kate come out with those words from Madeliene (which I don't personally believe) - "Why didn't you come last night when we cried Mummy"? Why would she want people to think her daughter could say that to her and then they would go out again the same evening. Was it to make people believe it happened on the 3rd? It would certainly add up, because none of the tapas 7, apart from Payne, remembered seeing Maddie on the 3rd. We only had Payne's word for it that he had seen her at bath time.

I could go on and on, but time doesn't permit, so I'll leave it at that.

Enjoy your weekend everyone.

Cláudia said...

Nancy, whatever the truth is, I have no doubt there is much more than meets the eye!
Enjoy your weekend!

J J said...

I must be missing something here.

How come, there was no point in doing the re-construction when they were asked by the police, one year after Madeleine went missing?

But there is a point in doing it now, two years after Madeleine went missing.

Are they being paid by the TV companies, but they wouldn't have been paid by the police?

Have all the people who were in Praia da Luz in 2007 been asked to contribute?

Or is this being done purely from the McCann perspective?
i.e.
She was abducted. We know she was abducted, even though we were not there when she was taken.
(Perhaps they will tell us how they know for sure.)
Poor little Madeleine.

Cláudia said...

Gina, yes: the world crisis and the McCanns.

Cláudia said...

E-mail me!

Cláudia said...

Hi, JJ.
No, the police wouldn't pay them, that's for sure.
I think you summed it all up pretty accurately. :-)

Gina said...

Claudia I cannot believe suddenly today of all days the world crisis suddenly hit MW. I feel so sorry for people who have saved and paid for a holiday there and have to put up with all this sh.t, when all they wanted was a break with their kids.

Cláudia said...

Gina, the world crisis didn't hit MW yesterday, od course. The employees got the letters yesterday. And according to one of the former employees there, whose voice was recorded but not his face because he feared for his compensation, the letter mentioned the name Mccann more than once.

Gina said...

Jesus Christ the McCanns even now manage to get a mention in redundancy letters too.

I just took a look at J4 to see what they were saying in the McCanns defence of all this, nothing! They have gone into diverge mode.

I can say this from the heart as a fence sitter, it doesn't matter whether you think the McCanns are guilty or the PJ are crap, Amaral is a useless whatever etc etc. The Mcanns were given too much publicity which has gone to their heads and seem to have no regard for anyone else whatsoever. They think the world sees them as these great, leaving no stone unturned parents. They are so wrong, they are now annoying more people than they are winner over.

Cláudia said...

They're not parents of a missing child, Gina. They're pop stars!
As for the others, who cares?

Gina said...

I think this should be their swansong, enough is enough.

If they want to keep looking under stones, do it in private. End of

Cláudia said...

They are so lucky that the people of the Algarve are nice and patient. Of course there is a whole entourage with them. I'd like to see Gerry alone on the streets of PdL, socialising with the locals. :-)

hope4truth said...

So now the McCann's are responsible for taking away the lively hoods of 21 people...

Enough of this rubbish the picture at the top of Joana's web site is one of many of the happy couple on Madeleines 4th Birthday it captures them full on smiling like they had no cares in the world and had just won the lottery. On such a special and sad day even a forced smile would have been surprising...

So they will do a reconstruction what good will it do it will be done to make themselves look innocent and wont help the 3 year old victim of thier gross and discusting neglect as it will not show the true movements of that night...

Madeleine has rights and the right to the truth should not be taken away from her as a mass cover up is put in place to save her parents...

If she really was taken CM and the Tapas 9 have made sure she is in more danger by spinning this and taking the hunt global are they that stupid that they have only realised 2 years on if she was taken the answer is most likely in PDL???

Or is the truth they always knew that and think it is safe now to go back to prove their innocence...

IMHO the photo on Joana's site should be put on a poster with the words...

Devestated McCann's on Madelienes 4th Birthday 9 days after they told the world she is in the hands of a peadophile ring...

A picture paints a thousand words....

I am sorry that scummy parents have been allowed to try and ruin a beautiful holiday resort the people of Portugal and PDL do not deserve this shabby treatment and neither do the 21 workers fired from Ocean Club...

Neglect your child and become rich beyond your wildest dreams and be protected against all charges is the shame of England...

If my 15 year old daughter was abducted on the way home from school I would never fogive myself that I did not pick her up that day.

Yet these two choose to neglect their childre (it was their holiday too) and still feel they have done no wrong...

I dont know why Madeleine is so unimportant to our government and social service department she has been swept aside so we can all watch her parents smile and laugh while they ask us to belive she was abducted by the scum of the earth...

I think any mention of the McCanns in the letter firing the MW employees might have been along the lines of 'Owing to the recession and the negative effect of the McCann case, we have far fewer bookings this year, and are unfortunately obliged to reduce our staff numbers'.

Don't you think?

Zetta, Mum and Rosie seem to think you are friendless and 'butt-ugly'.
They don't seem to have many original thoughts. Or did I blink and miss them?

Cláudia said...

Mariac, não faço a mínima ideia!

Cláudia said...

Hi, JennyH.

Probably. But that doesn't help employees, former employees and locals to welcome Gerry in his little trip. As the former employee said, they just want to let it go and see him go home once and for all, especially because they refused to go back when the PJ asked (these words are some of the many the former employee said).

They think that? I find that ludicrous and extremeley hurtful and unhelpful. Zetta is just leaving no stone unturned, I'm sure. ;-)

Although I was flippant with my comments yesterday I agree with what Jenny said about the wording in the letter from Mark Warner. There has been a downturn in holiday booking everywhere so laying people off was inevitable but the McCann case has added to MW problems. What I find difficult to understand is why MW allowed the filming to take place and why they did ask the people of Luz how they felt about it before agreeing to it. Surely if MW had refused to have their business further distrupted there would have been no point in the circus coming to town.

Cláudia said...

Gina, money?

I agree, but filming was also in the Tapas bar apparently. I think MW have shot themselves in the foot now, if the want to sue.

I just asked my sister if bookings were down on her properties in Luz and she said they had been until she dropped the rental price and advertised in "Euroland". She is now fully booked and the main reason Brits are not booking is the exchange rate with the pound against the Euro

P.S: Apartment 5A does not belong to MW so they could never stop access there.

Doesn't it belong to someone called McCann?

JennyH: Hi there! You and I must have blinked at the same time, because I too missed them!

Pee is getting his Batman Y-fronts in a twist. It's hysterical watching him getting everything all the wrong way round.

Mum21's family have no doubt leapt (cheering) onto the nearest bus away from the duck jail and are on their way home.Wouldn't her son be amazed at the way his mum is on the net?

Lovely weather again, so off out again! See you!

Hi, Zetta!
Yes, it does. Another one of those many coincidencies. :-)
Pee? ROTFLMAO!
Children always love their parents, generally speaking. But some would be pretty surprised by the duplicity! :-) A bit like parents who have no idea how their kids (who they think are little angels) behave at school, Some of them are horrified when they know the reality.
Enjoy the weather!

Hi Claudia!
I just saw Gerry's picture on the Mirror on line. No dout he is as "happy and relaxed " as Kate.
Why this happy and relaxed couple don't go to enjoy their happyness and relaxement elsewhere and leave us in peace? bjs

Hi, Mandarinn.
I personally know where I would like him to go and be 'happy and relaxed'. :-)
Jocas!!!

I certainly would be very fed up if I arrived for my Easter holiday in Praia de Luz and found it overrun by TV teams.

As for the firings, this only reflects what is happening all over to employees in the UK. If proper procedures are adhered to there is no redress. I also feel sure that the Euro/£ exchange rate is the main reason: statistics show that Brits are tending to holiday in the UK this year. I would be very surprised if the McCanns have much to do with it, but MW would naturally haul in every reason they can find to justify the redundancies, even if this inflames opinion even more against the McCanns.

This is simply a realistic comment, neither pro nor con.

Hi Mandarinn

Whenever the reconstruction had taken place (including much earlier under the auspices of the police) surely SOMEBODY'S mother would have had to allow her child to act the part of Madeleine? That is what I heard when the police were trying to arrange it.

Cláudia said...

Hi, JennyH.
I would leave as soon as I saw a camera.
I agree with you regarding the motives behind the firings. But that doesn't make it easier for people who get the redundancy letters and have to read the name McCann on it twice. Of course that will cause strong feelings. And knowing that around Easter time when turism numbers could go up is exactly the time chosen by Team McCann must be hard. To be honest, I haven't heard of similar firings (at least of that magnitude) in other resorts. But maybe they just aren't made public.
I agree it is a realistic comment. :-)

JennyH, I have to disagree there.
Firstly because I'm pretty sure that whenever a 'sleeping' Madeleine had to be portrayed, a doll would probably be used. When The PJ tried to see if it made sense a child being taken through the window, there was no real child. And even if a real child had to be used in certain moments to portray a wide awake Madeleine, it would still be different because it wouldn't be for mass 'consumption' as the reconstruction would be for investigative purposes and not for broadcasting. That child's face will be shown probably in the whole world, which would never happen with the reconstruction requested by the PJ.
Hope the weather is good where you are.
Enjoy your Sunday!

Claudia, I take your points regarding the need or not for a real 'Madeleine'. I just thought I'd heard last time that a real child had been suggested.

I still think that MW was using the name of the McCanns in that letter as a rather cheap way of blaming as many factors as possible for the redundancies -- to avoid being seen as the baddies! After all, they seem to have succeeded. I don't trust the weasel words of big companies.

I don't know what is happening staff-wise at other resorts, of course, but similar places in Europe (Portugal, Spain, Greece, and France) have been advertising holidays at crazily-cut prices. I think they are hoping people will eat and drink a lot once they are there. Ocean Club was among them btw, one of many.

But what on earth are the McCanns thinking of, making this film at Easter? It isn't as though they'd be duplicating the date when Madeleine disappeared. It's so crass.

The weather is superb here, thanks Claudia. Warm and sunny. You too enjoy what's left of the weekend.

Hi, JennyH!
I never heard anything about a real child being used in the reconstruction, only adults. But even if there was the need to do it, it wouldn't be broadcasted all over the world. Police reconstructions here are very common. But they are never televised. In fact, it is against the law.
Well, I'm sure they added the McCann name to the reasons. But I'm also pretty sure they are one of the reasons why PdL is suffering. And the pink one said today that K and G were sorry for the inconveniences.
Yes, other places are cutting down the prices but it seems to be working. There was a piece on TV the other day about that and even 5 star hotels said they were getting the same numbers from 2008 (bookings for Easter) by cutting down prices between 20% and 10%. Another strategy used was to include services that were once paid as gym, massages, etc.
Their timing was terrible. If it was deliberate or not, I don't know. But I'm sure the timing chosen by them also contributed to people's reaction.
I'm glad the weather is great where you are. Here it is too.
