Is someone growing some balls?

Daily Mail

13 March 2009

Jan Moir

Gerry's complaints leave a bitter taste

How strange it was to see pale, pugnacious Gerry McCann back in the news this week. It serves as a reminder that while the world has moved on for the rest of us, time stands still for him.

For the McCann family, the clocks stopped nearly two years ago, on that terrible night in the Algarve when their three-year-old daughter slipped from public view and has not been seen since.

In their quest to find Madeleine, the desperate McCanns invited the world's Press into their lives. It was a relationship that was doomed to sour.

Grievance: Gerry McCann has complained about the Press

For months, the McCanns' efforts to keep their daughter's plight high on the news agenda were intense. Far from shrinking from the oxygen of publicity, what they feared most was the muffle of public apathy. In the process, they became experts at manipulating the media to their own advantage.

At one point, Mr McCann even returned to the family home in Leicestershire to tie his own yellow ribbon to the teddystocked Madeleine shrine that had been hastily erected in the centre of the village.

Then and now, watching Gerry McCann walking the red carpet of his grief, as knowing as a Cannes film star, can be an uncomfortable experience.

This week, Mr McCann took the opportunity to air his grievances about the Press and its treatment of his family in front of the House of Commons Culture Select Committee.

For what possible purpose? Certainly, some bad judgment decisions were made by the more excitable newspapers, who have been punished with hefty libel payments and widespread approbation for their troubles. Surely that is an end to the matter?

No. Mr McCann is not finished complaining. Yet the more and more he complains about what happened in the aftermath of his daughter's disappearance, the more I feel he is attempting to assuage his own guilt for failing to be there when she needed him most.

Still, it's not his fault that these useless Select Committees, stuffed with the third rate and the Parliamentary walking wounded, give an indulgent platform for anyone with a grievance.

Acho bem. Venham mais! :-)

Good for Jan Moir!

I haven't always agreed with her point of view, but I take my hat off to her today - telling it like it is instead of trying to keep the McCanns sweet!

I love the bit about Gerry walking on the red carpet of fame! He loves being seen as a celebrity and that's why I don't believe a word he says about the media.

May coming up and Maddie's 6th birthday - he'll be out there with his balloons and ribbons to attract a bit more money I'm sure! Of course he'll be using the money to find Maddie!

He can tell that to the Marines!

Have a nice evening everyone.

Hi, Nancy!
Couldn't agree more. Finally it seems people are, little by little, allowed to voice at least some of their opinions. I think it is a good sign. Maybe antagonising the press so vehemently wasn't such a goos idea after all.
I don't even want to imagine the circus in May.
Have a nice evening, Nancy!

EXCELLENT!! :-))))

I knew it would come, but just not this soon. Wonderful reporting. This journo has just said as much as: "Gerry, you started it, now
bu99er off and reap what you have sown", only in much more intelligent and polite diction.

Bravo Daily Mail and I hope more newspapers will have the guts to follow suit. Gerry has effectively cut off his lifelines in what he has done and can beg and plead as much as he wants, but I can't see anybody giving G & K a platform to spin their tales of woe anymore, unless:

a) Madeleine turns up alive (I won't say well because I don't believe she can be)

or

b) New evidence turns to re-open the case.

In the event of 'b', there will be no more sucking up to team McCann, the gloves will be off, and I hope that there will be fair and honest reporting for once, not that with a McCann bent.

Thanks for the article Claudia, I feel like framing it!

Hi everyone -

There's an article in the Sun by Jeremy Clarkson (not one of my favourite people) who mentions Kate McCann. Mind you, he's right in what he says that the papers shouldn't have said that Kate killed Madeleine!

What they should have said was that all those who left their tiny children unattended are guilty as hell of child neglect and abandonment and there's no way the McCann's should have been allowed to go to Brussels to head the Amber Alert scheme on behalf of the UK.

Have a nice evening and Sunday!

Hi, Nancy!
Of course newspapers shouldn't print things that aren't facts or make things up. However, they should be free to print the true. And the neglect is not a metter of opinion. It is the truth. A 3 year old was left home alone and vanished. That's why I couldn't agree more with your comment. The Amber Alert thing was to divert attention and probably one of the most pathetic stunts ever.
Have a great Sunday too.

Hi Nancy & Claudia,

For all of his outspokeness, I have to say, that whilst I wouldn't pick Clarkson as my ideal dinner guest, if I wanted a person to speak up for me, he's the man I'd chose. Lol!

Nancy, you are right, in that Amber Alert is the most inappropriate avenue that the McCanns could have leant their support to as champions. I really do feel genuinely sorry for parents who have had a child abducted by pure fluke because the child was playing in the back garden/field, such as Sarah Payne. The McCanns support must seem utterly revolting to such parents that love and cherish their children and never compromise their safety to leave them to go out, for no other reason, than being "into" their mates on holiday.

Shame on Amber Alert for even entertaining such a repulsive figurehead.

Have a good Sunday all, & I'll be back Sunday night.

Hi Cláudia,

I hope the chickens are coming home to roost. I think now more papers will start making comments.

Gerry McCann didn't do himself any favours whinging about the way the papers treated him. IMO he is a dangerous fool.

Have a nice Sunday Cláudia. Weather glorious here today.

The Amber Alert stunt was shameless. But I wouldn't expect anything different from them.
Hope you have a nice Sunday! :-)

Hi, Helmy!
So do I! Launching such an attack againt the press was not very smart. It was the press who made them who they are now and it was them who publisiced Madeleine's face. Not smart at all. Let's see if the comments continue.
I think he's just a fool. :-)
Here the weather is also fantastic. Enjoy your Sunday.

Olá Cláudia

The media situation reminds me somewhat of Princess Diana and the way she worked with the press. She used them and they used her. It all went very wrong for Princess Diana as it did with the McCanns' want for publicity about their daughter's disappearance.

Yesterday I wrote a post on the pink place. It wasn't printed! Naturally I was amazed! :-)

Something written by Rosiepops on the blog "I believe the kind of people that do these things have no interest in the welfare of children, they have no interest in true justice, what they have is a mental impairment. Cerebrally challenged, they are in short they are just thick, pig ignorant idiots, who get a kick out of seeing their words published."

Naturally she wasn't talking about the J4 blog, but about some nameless place. Does she not see the irony of these words? I wrote in the unpublished comment that the J4 people are doing just the same in as far as spreading nastiness is concerned, it is just that their target is different. They obviously didn't have a comeback to that one so they just deleted it.

I also asked why Tony, who appears to have appointed himself as Internet police, is complaining about sites, then why not about the J4 site? Madeleine is never mentioned there and I'm not sure that Tony has once mentioned the McCanns or Madeleine? Certainly he seems to think running others down is far more important.

I think I have worked out why the J4 forum's number of posts and posters have declined. Some seem to have found a place to post where you can actually give your opinion not simply say what Rosie wants to hear. (She'll probably join it when she reads this to show how "open" to other opinions she is! ROFLMAO.)

I agree. It reminds me also of the way celebrities show us their lives, their houses, their intimacy even their children and then complain about not having their privacy respected. When you use the media to suit your own agenda, you have to understand that comes with a price. The media are not charity organisations. They want something back and they will get it. Sooner or later.
You mean they didn't publish your comment? How dare they? LOL
The level of hypocrisy in the HoF is beyond words. Sometimes I wonder if they see it but can't admit it or if they are too stupid or obsessed to actually see. Of course she wasn't talking about her own HoF. ;-)
Lately I have noticed a special protection of Gerry by certain people. I cannot help think there are motives for that empathy. It makes sense that people who have failed in their duty of protectors would have empathy for someone in a similar situation.
What could they respond to your comment? 'Yeah, you're right'? :-)
I have no idea who Tony is. And to be honest, I'm not that interested. There are already too many lunatics linked to that place and I'm not exactly up to date with new 'characters'. ;-)
Madeleine who, Zetta? That is not about Madeleine. It never was. For those people, the victim is not the one who was left alone and vanished. The victims are the ones who left her alone.
See, I am certainly not up to date. Truth be told, if I visited all the places I see mentioned, I would have to stop working and give up sleeping! LOL If she joined, soon members would have to find another place! LOL

Rosies Mole said...

Bearing in mind the content of the J4 blog, don't you find Rosies whining to Forumotion quite funny? These are quotes from a mail to the hosts.

In short, these people are nothing but trouble makers, who just like causing trouble and are in it for the spite and trouble they can cause, they do NOT care for this child, her parents or the truth.

...

... they wish to join it (the forum) to try and read everything to go away copy and paste it elsewhere and personally and viciously attack us, often using the foulest and crudest terms.

I myself am attacked daily by these people, I usually just ignore them totally, I have been called a psycho, a sociopath a fat old arthritic miserable bitch etc.

You really dont read about Rosie much anymore. There were a couple of comments on the 3As, but that was about it. And on the J4 blog?

As for the "crudest terms", are they the terms that made Forumotion consider shutting down the forum because of the lack of respect and the overdose of ignorance?

To prove what a victim she is Rosie sent a link to a blog where she was mentioned.Unfortunately the link was from December 2007! Not the most convincing proof of these "daily attacks".

(I am rosiepops they mention, just a cursory look over this blogspot will show you that I am under sustained attack from these people, usually in 99.9% of the time I do NOT retaliate!)

And the real reason for the blog?

I could complain to their hosts about them, but Google do not take any notice and in any case, I have better things to do with my time then to engage in this childish nonsense.

Thats why she spends hours on the blog writing nasty comments!

Now for the best bit. Do you remember the cries of "the mail is a spoof"? This is what Rosie and Tinks wrote to Forumotion.

To comply with Forumotion and answer any litigations or abuses, we have moved one whole thread out of the public area into members only and have taken several threads off of the forum altogether, you can view these in our basket.

Cláudia said...

Hi, Rosies Mole!
Thanks for that. It's hilarious. I never thought she was so flexible! It's was quite surprising to see her crawling when writing to Forumotion. And loved the victim mode too. LOL Keep it coming!!! :-)

Ola (wish I had a key for the 'a' symbol!) Claudia, Zetta and Rosie's Mole!

That blog is a pathetic excuse for people who have been bullies all of their lives and haven't managed to find a real live victim recently, so they resort to blog bitching. I guess it makes them feel good so let them carry on in their tiny World of nastiness.

It is a pity that there is not a single "pro" (to my knowledge) that can hold down a decent discussion or debate without having to resort to childish name-calling.

My question is, where did Tony sprout from? He just appeared on the PH-H a while ago and has been sucking up to Rosie and Co ever since, and threatening libel action amongst other things, left, right and center, just to nose his way into the pack of internet wolves. Due credit to him, they love him, and so his sad scheming has done the trick for him. Well done tony :-)))

Apparently, Claudia, something is going to happen soon, that you will not like regarding GA! How many times have we heard that before?! The icing on the cake is that Rosie & co heard this before the press got to it. Big deal, bring it on....it will be soemthing like GA was caught picking his nose in class once ;-)

There are pros who can discuss things in a civil, logical way. They just don't inhabit the House of Filth, of course.
I have no idea who Tony is and don't want to find out! LOL The ones I know are more than enough! :-) Oh, and I still haven's got my letter which was supposed to have arrived one year ago. I hope the damn postman is fired!
I have a pretty good idea about what's going to happen that GA and I won't like. Saturday he was pretty pissed off (and so was I) because Benfica lost. It seems we won't win the Championship! :-)

Hi Claudia and Dylan,

Yes, I agree that newspapers must be allowed to print their opinions on all sorts of things if it is in the public interest, and shouldn't be prevented because it may cause certain people angst. We can't pick and choose what we want printed just to suit ourselves - the sort of 'not not in our backyard' mentality.

If the McCanns ever get charged I don't think any Judge or jury with an iota of common sense would accept that they could plea unfair trial by media after the way they have courted the media from day 1.

They would though of course because that is how hypocritical they are.

Gerry McCann was slagging the media off for what he saw as their irresponsible behaviour when he and his wife were clearly irresponsible in leaving their children, as were their pals, and their irresponsibility resulted in their daughter Madeleine going missing.

Their hunger for media fame and the money they made has put other children in danger of copycat crimes, as we saw with the Shannon Matthews case.

Hi, Nancy!
As you know, where I live all the crap about unfair trials because of the media does not exist because trails by jury are extremely rare and even when they do occur there is also a panel of judges. But I agree with you. I don't deny that the McCanns have been, at times, victims of certain newspapers and specific articles. However, those were the same newspapers which not only made Madeleine the most famous child in the world but also which spread the abduction theory and the pathetic sketchmen and toothman. All in all, I think they should be thankful instead of complaining. Without the media, Madeleine would have been forgotten by the rest of the world (except maybe the UK and Portugal) in a couple of weeks. Trashing the media like Gerry did wasn't a very good idea, in my opinion. And maybe he will realise it. Soon rather than later.

Nancy, I thoroughly agree with what you say. The McCann's USED the media according to their needs, used them up, chewed them and then spat them out when they had no further need for them. At least they must think they thay have no further need for them but, IMO, there will be a future need and the press will be unwilling to abet. We reap what we sow and this applies to the "holy duo" too!

It's also being discussed on the 3A's headed 'anonymous writes on Joana Morais website'!- 29730.

Whoever it is seems to know a bit about Gerry! It could be just hype I suppose.

Or it could be someone he works with and knows him only too well!
Let's hope so and that cracks are appearing.

Is there any news about GA lately Claudia? I usually get up to date stuff from McCann Files but there's not been an update for about a week or so.

I can't say I know much about Irish traditions. But we have an Irish Bar here. The first time (and last) that I had an Irish coffee, it almost killed me (my usual drinking habits include a couple of beers during summer and a sip of champagne on News Year's Eve or someone's birthday). Hi Claudia,

Well how very dare you leave your blog unattended for a day??! ;-)

I found the thread Nancy posted on the 3as and got side-tracked by a few new threads as well. I think the anon post is nothing more than an observation made by somebody who has been following the case, rather than by a person who has inside knowledge on GM. However, I would say that his or her thoughts are pretty well reflected by what I know of GM.

Sabot has her knickers well and truly in a twist on the thread about the MP. I find it utterly distasteful that she is using the old "Leonor is innocent" adage in order to prove a point about GA. I really feel for the poor man. His name has been dragged through the mill properly. And what is his sin? Well, that was to review the evidence on hand and point a finger at the McCanns! I hope he is OK and I applaud him for keeping his chin up amidst such desperate slagging campaigns against him.

I think I may have an early night tonight and will bid you all goodnight, and sleep well.

I agree regarding the anon comment on Joana Morais.
So Sabot says the convicted murderer Leonor Cipriano is innocent? Another child killer lover. There are people like that in the world. Even serial killers get fan mail and marriage proposals, so...
GA is fine. At least he was very, very recently. This is a man who has dealt with the worst criminals for more than two decades. He has dealt with the worst society creates. A few pathetic attempts to trash him are nothing comapared to dealing with child abusers, rapists, drug dealers and parents who kill children.
